Yard Signs

This past weekend I was in Wisconsin for a day for a couple hockey games. As I looked out the car window as we were driving, I noticed a whole bunch of McCain signs in peoples yards. In Illinois, I had noticed how there were loads of Obama signs in peoples front yards and every once in awhile, you would see a McCain sign. I am a person who does not take sides. I just thought how interesting it was to see the difference in the parties people are for when it is just a state away. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, what are your thoughts?

Good post! I think that yard signs are interesting also. It’s strange that different states favor different candidates, but even when you travel to a different state you see a dramatic difference in yard signs. I think it’s really weird how you can cross a border and the signs can totally flip. Also, the other day I was over at my friend’s house and her mom was really upset because her yard sign was stolen from her front yard. I know that this probably is not the biggest deal, but she was mad because one, it’s illegal, and two, she wanted to support her candidate. She was considering calling the police. I think that if she were to have called the police that would have been way over the top, but I find it interesting how people are proud of the sign in their front lawn, and how big of a deal it is to them

As I was going back to my house this morning I was looking around and realized the same thing. Some of the peoples names on the signs I have never heard of. It is any persons right to put a yard sign up, but personally I do not think they have much of an impact.

This is a very interesting post! I had a similar experience when I was in Seattle this past weekend. I don't think I saw a single McCain sign. It also seemed that almost every yard I passed had an Obama sign. Yard signs can be positive and negative. When it comes to politcal signs there are more opportunities to have negative things happen. During the last election my neighbors had a Bush sign in their yard, but it was obviously not safe for them to have it. Someone decided to put an acid or something on the sign, so when my neighbors went to move the sign, they got severely burned from whatever was placed on the sign. This was absolutely horrible. I don't think that I will ever put a political sign in my yard because of the things that I have seen happen. It seems it isn't safe to even state your opinion which is free speech, which goes against what our country stands for.
